I know band people dont get much of a break during summer. I had a friend who was in the band at norton and durning the summer it was hard to plan something to do together because she had a lot of band practice and things of that nature.

And you're talkikng to a future band director. Think about how much of a break they get.

But like I said, as a future band director, I like the idea. It makes it easier for me to make sure the students attend practice.

Thankfully, during the summer, the band directors excuse absences if you're out of town or sick. They'll almost always excuse those. A lot of the summer rehearsals are not all that crucial but if you can make it, it is still extremely important to. And band camp is almost always crucial.

But back to the subject, I really think it would work out a bit better than expected.

An idea I would have is if you go 8 weeks, cover EVERYTHING within that time period. And have a final exam on it at the end of the 8th week. And once the 2 week break is up and you're back in school, repeat the process you did the first 8 weeks. Or go 9 weeks and get off for 1 week.

I think they should do a trial of that. If it works out, keep it. If not, go back to the way things are.

Year round would go over here better than you think. They do it at my mother-in-law's School in Jackson Ky and it works great.

Alot of people are under the misconception that it is 8 on 2 off all year long, it isn't you do still have a long summer break just not as long as it is now, if memory serves me correctly you would still get 6 weeks in the summer.

You wouldn't be in school in July, and beside that July isn't as bad as August.
